patches, patches and more patches

The blanket is slowly growing. I have 40 pieces and a lot to go...
I crochet a patch or two when I am not too tired at night. So maybe by summer time I will have a blanket.

Sunshine Day Afghan

I am so excited, I am learning how to crochet!! I have been knitting since I was pretty young but never learned how to crochet.
I have admired Alicia Paulson's crochet work on her lovely blog for quite some time and finally decided to make her Sunshine Day Afghan.

I purchased her pattern from her web page, made a trip to Imagiknit in San Francisco. Yay, a reason for a stop by the yarn shop is always welcome. I don't think I have ever walked out of a yarn store without new ideas or plans for future or present projects. My first job was in a yarn shop, I was never payed my allowance since I every month had used it all on yarn...

So I sat down to learn... I quickly discovered that I could not read the pattern. I knew none of the abbreviations for crocheting. SO, online I went and looked up every single stitch. Very confusing for a little while until a few you tube tutorials sorted it all out for me.
My first piece did not quite look the way Alicia's squares did. I should have taken a photo of it, instead I undid the piece and started over. After starting over quite a few times, I finally did it! My granny squares was looking like Alicia's!

So, I have so far made 30 pieces, I have uhm... about 100 or 150 left, so it will take some time....
Which is OK, I am loving this project. Thanks Alicia for a lovely design :)

Trip to San Francisco and lots of treats

Today we spent the whole entire day in San Francisco. We brought a happy Dash along, he was jumping back and forth between us when he saw us bring out his leash. His name could have been buckaroo, it would have suited him nicely.
We parked under Bay Bridge and walked over to the ferry building. Had lunch outside in the sun and all agreed that San Francisco is a beautiful city on a sunny day like today.

On our way to get gelato from Ciao Bella we stumbled upon Miette bakery and sweet shop. We somehow  ended up with a cake ( had not planed to eat cake today but now we will, love those unplanned events) and some other fun treats. We slowly walked back to our car carefully carrying our beautiful treasure, a bittersweet chocolate cake with Italian meringue icing.

After a visit to our favorite park, where Adel and I always sigh and say something like 'I wish we were still living here in San Francisco' we drove down to what turned out to become my new favorite knitting store. Imagiknit! What a treat. Thanks Denise for the tip!

I got stainless steel and wool yarn from Habu and can not wait until tonight when I get started on my new scarf. Just need to find my knitting needles that I so neatly organized away. Now I can not find them at all...

This was one of the best days ever, Oliver says. We have had a few of them and this was certainly one of them. We have some cake that needs to be devoured so we better get cracking.

cards and ornaments to the holiday market

I have been busy making ornaments for the crafters guild holiday market at Vøyen gård and at Norsk Folkemuseum. My mom is sooooo nice to add my felted santa girls and boys to to her table at both events.

These gals are sitting waiting to be packaged and shipped off to Norway

Christmas cards went into a big envelope also heading across the Atlantic. Wish I could make the trip to deliver them my self. Maybe next year.
